Several years ago we accepted a challenge from one of our clients to donate the money we normally would spend on Christmas cards and postage to help feed others less fortunate than ourselves. What a great idea!
With our current economy and jobless rate, we are definitely living in a time of need. Knowing that we were actually making a difference in someone’s life and doing something humanitarian felt wonderful. You just don’t get that same feeling mailing cards. We can tell you first hand that volunteering at a food mission or giving a donation to a trusted charity is much more enjoyable and rewarding than licking stamps.
The first year we did this we made donations to a local Food Bank and to a local Mission that serves hot meals daily. Eventually we included a third charity – Clean Drinking Water.
Almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean drinking water. Unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all disease and kill more people than all forms of violence, including war. We want to help change that.
We are challenging others to make each holiday season a “Season of Service” by contributing in any way you can, with either time or money, to help make a difference in the lives of others. Hallmark and USPS may not appreciate our actions but a lot of people will. To us, it just seems like the right thing to do. We hope you agree and will choose to join us in this new holiday tradition. Together we can make a difference.
